PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School brings together the faith, talent, gifts, and the dedicated lives of priests, women religious, and lay collaborators as educators who are committed to fostering, nurturing, and sustaining a Catholic Christian environment. The prevailing spirit of this school is focused on building a community of faith which invokes the positive formation and comprehensive education of each child in our care. This dynamic educational program is designed to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, and psychological growth, as well as the intellectual, aesthetic, and physical development of each child.

Together with the devoted parents who are the primary educators of their children, we unite in striving to build, strengthen, and incorporate our beliefs as Catholics, so that each child may develop a vibrant awareness of God’s presence in his/her daily life and experience a meaningful personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through the dynamics of our Christ-centered community, the children will experience a sense of worth, belonging, and success.

The Sisters of the Company of Mary

The Sisters of the Company of Mary is an international order founded by Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac in 1607 in Bordeaux, France. The mission of the Company of Mary from its earliest beginnings was the education of youth. The Order she founded over 400 years ago now extends to 26 countries. Saint Jeanne’s in Temecula is one of nearly 70 schools affiliated with the Sisters of the Company of Mary.

Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School is the only co-educational private Catholic school in the Temecula/Murrieta area. Saint Jeanne’s was founded in October 1993 by the Sisters of the Company of Mary as part of the Viña de Lestonnac Ministry Center. Initially the sisters established the school for preschool and kindergarten children only. During the 1997 school year a group of energetic parents approached the leadership of the sisters and asked them to expand the school to include grades preschool through eighth. The sisters accepted the challenge and began a search for a new location in earnest. In 1997, the property was secured and construction began.

In September 1999, the school moved to its present location. The first eighth grade class graduated in 2000.In September 2001, the construction of the new theater and gymnasium was completed. A special dedication Mass and blessing was officiated by Bishop Gerald Barnes. The school continues to grow and prosper under the direction of the Sisters of the Company of Mary and their dynamic lay collaborators.
