Leadership for Students, Grounded in Purpose

Our mission calls us to prepare youth and young adults to become leaders at the service of others. We treat character development not as a resume item, but as the foundation for bringing peace, courage, and initiative wherever they go. 

Students put these values into practice through tangible experiences, from setting personal goals to organizing events to speaking publicly. Along the way, they build the inner habits that define true character, including self-discipline, integrity, a strong work ethic, and respect for others. 

When leadership is rooted in Gospel values, it becomes less about being “in charge” and more about being faithful and ready to contribute. 

Leadership Opportunities for High School Students at Saint Jeanne

Students can grow as leaders through multiple pathways at Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic High School, depending on their interests, gifts, and season of life. Some thrive in front of a microphone, while others lead quietly by mentoring peers or strengthening team culture. 

Common leadership opportunities for high school students include: 

• Associated Student Body (ASB) and class leadership through elections and student representation
• Campus events and traditions, where students plan and host activities that build unity and spirit
• Athletics, where scholar-athletes learn responsibility, teamwork, and what it means to be a role model
• Clubs and co-curricular programs, where students develop initiative, collaboration, and specialized leadership skills
• FFA, a distinctive program that prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through hands-on learning and competition
• HOSA, Future Health Professionals, where students explore healthcare careers while building leadership, teamwork, and real-world skills through hands-on learning, service, and competition

Across these opportunities, we always encourage our students to start where they are and take on more responsibility over time. 

Associated Student Body (ASB): Leadership, Ownership, and Accountability

ASB is one of the most visible forms of student leadership on campus. The student body’s primary goals are to create a memorable experience for all students, promote school unity and spirit, and nurture student-leaders. From the energy of a rally to the details that make an event run smoothly, ASB helps keep student life vibrant and well-organized. 

Serving in ASB develops the practical skills that often matter in college and beyond: clear communication, planning, teamwork, and follow-through. Student-leaders learn to coordinate with faculty and staff while managing logistics and bringing classmates together across grade levels and friend groups. 

ASB Elections and Eligibility

ASB officers are elected into office by class elections and must hold a GPA of 2.7 or higher (and 3.0 for Executive Council ASB Officers). This expectation reinforces that leadership includes academic responsibility. When students represent their peers, we want them to practice balance, maturity, and accountability in every part of school life.

FFA: A Distinctive Leadership Program

One of the unique high school leadership programs at Saint Jeanne is FFA, the largest national  youth leadership organization that prepares its members for personal growth and career success through agricultural education. 

As FFA members, students are exposed to opportunities such as leadership conferences and Career Development Events (CDE). At SJDLHS, our chapter participates in CDEs that cover public speaking, parliamentary procedures, and agricultural mechanics. 

Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic High School is one of only four Catholic high schools in the nation offering an FFA Charter and the only high school in Temecula with this program. 

 

Leadership Through Athletics: Scholar-Athletes as Role Models

At Saint Jeanne, we remind our student-athletes that wearing our school colors is both a privilege and a responsibility. Every practice and game becomes a chance to grow in discipline and teamwork. 

We call our student-athletes to hard work, integrity, and strong character, recognizing that they are also looked to as role models by younger students. Some lead with a voice, calling out plays and rallying the team. Others lead with consistency, staying coachable and doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Either way, our athletics programs give students a meaningful place to pursue the sports they love while learning what it means to lead well. 

HOSA Preparing Future Health Professionals

At Saint Jeanne, HOSA gives students interested in healthcare and biomedical sciences opportunities to turn classroom learning into meaningful experiences. Through service, competition, and collaboration, students strengthen their knowledge while developing confidence and leadership.

HOSA challenges students to communicate effectively, work as a team, solve problems, and serve others with compassion and integrity. Some discover a clearer path toward a future healthcare career. Others develop leadership skills and confidence that will serve them in any profession. Along the way, students learn that healthcare is about more than knowledge, it is about caring for the whole person. Through HOSA, students are encouraged to explore their interests, recognize their strengths, and grow into capable, compassionate leaders prepared to make a difference in the lives of others.
