High School Academics

At Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic High School, our high school academics are designed to form the whole student: mind, heart, and spirit. We carry forward Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac’s 17th-century charism by educating with purpose and preparing young people to lead lives of faith and service in a global community.

Our Academic Approach: Rigor With Meaning

In a world full of distractions, we help students learn to think clearly and choose what matters. In every course, our teachers emphasize the “how” of learning: thoughtful reflection, meaningful dialogue, strong academic habits, and personal accompaniment that helps students grow in confidence, character, faith, and purpose.

We also invite students to connect what they learn to Gospel values, practicing integrity, respecting different perspectives, and using their gifts in the service of others. The academic experience we offer prepares them not only for college-level work, but for a life of faith and responsibility.

What Students Study (By Requirement Area)

Theology

Theology is part of how we form students at Saint Jeanne. Across four years, learners deepen their understanding of Scripture, Catholic teaching, and moral decision-making. Through prayer and reflection, they grow in spiritual maturity and learn how to apply their faith in their daily lives.

English

Students build the skills they will use in every college major and career path: close reading, clear writing, discussion, and presentation. We help students develop a confident voice, whether they’re analyzing a text or speaking in front of classmates.

Mathematics & Science

Our math and science sequence prepares high school students for college-level expectations by building strong fundamentals and steady problem-solving skills. They learn to approach complex questions with logic and precision and develop skills that translate well beyond the classroom.

Social Studies

Students engage history and civic life with context and discernment, learning how ideas shape societies and how individuals can shape the world with integrity. Requirements include:

  • World History (2 semesters)
  • U.S. History (2 semesters)
  • Government (1 semester) or AP equivalent
  • Economics (1 semester) or AP equivalent

Fine Arts

Our high school students complete two semesters in the same fine arts discipline (for example, continuing in the same art or performance area). Focusing on one area gives them time to build skills and gain confidence. Fine arts also strengthen creativity and help students build an eye for beauty, which we regard as an important part of a well-rounded high school education.

World Languages

Students complete four semesters in the same world language to build real proficiency. Studying a language strengthens communication skills and helps learners understand other cultures with respect.

In the Company of Mary tradition, this growing awareness supports a wider view of the world and readiness to engage with people beyond our own community.

Health/PE

We believe wellness is part of the stewardship of the body God has given us. Health is mandatory and integrated with PE requirements. Students may also satisfy PE credits through Varsity Interscholastic sports participation, based on the designated criteria for each sport.

Electives

Electives give students space to explore interests beyond core requirements. They can use electives to deepen strengths, try something new, and build skills that support college and future goals.

Often, an elective becomes the class that helps a student discover a new talent or confirms an interest they want to pursue more seriously.

Why Saint Jeanne for High School Academics

When you’re comparing private high school academics, it’s easy to find course lists that look similar. The difference is what happens day to day: how students are taught and formed.

At Saint Jeanne, we offer more than a college-prep pathway. Our academic experience is shaped by faith and purpose.

  • Faith in Action, Excellence in Study: Students learn to pursue truth with humility, speak with respect, and make ethical choices.

  • Small Classes, Personal Attention: Our teachers have the time to provide genuine feedback, helping students grow academically and in self-confidence.

  • Smart Planning for College Readiness: We help learners map a four-year plan that supports their long-term goals.

  • Senior Year That Builds Maturity: Through the Senior Thesis and Senior Exit Interview, students learn to manage a long-term project and speak thoughtfully about what they’ve learned and who they’re becoming.
